Course Description:
The deployment cdma2000 1xEV-DO Revision A is a crucial stepping stone that will allow operators to differentiate themselves by enabling a variety of applications and real-time services. 1xEV-DO Release 0 is designed to provide high-speed data transfers for Best Effort (BE) type applications, such as Web browsing and E-mail with the focus being on maximizing sector and user throughputs. With 1xEV-DO Revision A, new features provide support for real-time applications as well as improving the data performance of BE applications. The performance focus is not only to maximize throughputs for BE applications, but ensure Quality of Service requirements are met for the real-time applications as well as maximizing network capacity. As a result, a multitude of new parameters are available in 1xEV-DO Rev. A that govern the mobile behavior and network performance in terms of achievable capacity and application performance.
This workshop provides an in-depth and comprehensive understanding into the many configurable network parameters, defined by the standard, which can be optimized for improved system performance. The course will include an exploration into the design criteria and trade-offs of parameters for the deployment of Best Effort and VOIP-type applications in a 1xEV-DO Rev. A network. The workshop begins by characterizing and categorizing the relevant parameters and requirements for BE and VOIP applications. Next, an overview of the system access, system paging, and in-traffic behavior of VOIP and BE applications will be provided. The remainder of the workshop illustrates and details the steps and parameters governing the behavior of the Access Terminal and Access Network during system access/paging, and when in-traffic on the Forward and Reverse Links. Network capacity, performance and user experience trade-offs will be explored using design and analysis exercises, incorporating live field data and active network configurations. This workshop is based on parameters defined in 3GPP2 C.S0024-A as well as QUALCOMM’s Master System Parameters.
