 Demystifying High Speed Wireless Technology

Technical/Non-technical telecommunications professionals who would like to have an overview of wireless data technologies.
Course Description: 

This seminar provides an overview of all the different high-speed wireless networks including Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN), Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN), Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (WMAN) and cellular networks currently being developed and deployed. The fundamentals of high-speed wireless communications systems, such as frequency, bandwidth, data rates, and latencies, are briefly explained. An overview of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, UWB (Ultra-Wideband), NFC (Near-Field Communications), WiFi, UMTS, HSPA, CDMA2000 1x, 1xEV-DO, WiMax, and LTE is given. The course also compares the features and advantages/disadvantages of the various technologies. The application of these technologies and their future will also be discussed.



Objectives:

This course enables a student to:

Ø  Explain the motivations for wireless communications

Ø  Define wireless a wireless connection.

Ø  Understand key wireless concepts and terminology.

Ø  Explain the various types wireless networks and their associated radio technology standards.

Ø  Explain the evolution of cellular networks from 1G to 4G

Ø  Explain the key features in 4G networks
