 CDMA2000 1X Rel 0
Length:
8 hours (1 day)

Prerequisites:
CDMA engineering basics or equivalent CDMA2000 1X working knowledge

Audience:
This course is intended for experienced telecommunications professionals who are familiar of cdmaOne since the material will compare and contrast CDMA2000 with cdmaOne.

Course Description:
CDMA 2000 1x Rel0 provides higher data rates, increased network capacity and additional channels like QPCH and R-PICH. It is backward compatible with IS-95 networks. Additionally it meets IMT-2000 3G requirements and leads to 3G network up gradation. This course presents an in-depth description of the functioning of CDMA2000 system according to the key CDMA standards (TIA/EIA/IS2000-0). A description of key processes including variable rate Walsh spreading, new traffic channels, and new power control modes are provided. Additionally spread spectrum signal generation, MAC/LAC processing, hand-off techniques, call processing, registration, authentication, and encryption are discussed. Emphasis is placed on new features and capabilities introduced in CDMA2000 1X Release 0.

Objectives:

After completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe variable rate Walsh coding, Walsh space planning, Walsh assignments, quasi-orthogonal codes, convolutional codes and turbo codes
  • Describe the physical layer including the 1X and 3X frequency allocations, the generation of the 1X forward link channels, the 1X reverse link channels, supplemental channels, radio configurations, quick paging channel and reverse pilot gating
  • Describe the power control process including reverse open loop, reverse closed loop gain attributes, fast forward power control, forward power control modes, and forward power control channel configurations
  • Describe the structure of the media access control layer, access methods, mux options, call states of sync/idle/access/traffic, service configurations, mobile assisted burst operation, control hold, supplemental channel assignments, tiered services, CDMA signaling channels, call processing and the key messages transmitted on those channels
  • Describe the hand-off process, reduced active sets, and MABO
  • Describe registration parameters and related messaging, authentication and the extended encryption algorithm
  • Briefly describe wireless data network elements, mobile IP and service option 33
